Trump says US will take control and ownership of Gaza and deport 2.3 million Gazans in a historically unprecedented "nation-ending operation." Could this end up being Trump's Vietnam?
Well thoughtout article. Removal of the Palestinians would be no different than the forced Removal of the Jews from the Jewish ghettos of Europe. The only things missing would be the cattle train cars and the concentration camps at the end of the rail line.
The only solution Trump should seek is the one Israel doesn't want and that is to let the Palestinians have some level of autonomy and the Arab countries rebuild Gaza.
In other words a form of the failed Minsk Accords. With the Arab countries signing on as guarantors of Israeli security.
Under no circumstances should the U.S. military ever step foot in Gaza or the West Bank. Israel is the interloper in the region and not the Palestinians.
Precisely. That is exactly what I have been arguing for and what will be the subject of my next article. The two state solution could work if Israel withdrew all its troops from Gaza in exchange for Hamas giving up power to the PA with the Arab League providing security for Gaza and financing its reconstruction.
Giving up power to the PA will never work because Israel and the U.S. created Hamas as a foil to the PA. Both organizations have to go.
I would also say that Israel has to give up its nuclear weapons because they are the ultimate threat to the region. A nuclear power equipped Israel is a supremacist Israel.
Israel has to accept that it must get along with its neighbors and the Palestinians are Israel's neighbors. The Palestinians weren't flown into the area. They're the ancestors of people native to the area.
This is unlike the high percentage mmigrant population of Israel. Who fly away to their other country of citizenship when things get tough.
The goal should be to remove nuclear weapons from the region. The Middle East must be declared a nuclear weapons free zone.
The lofty principle that no state should attain its security at the expense of another must apply. No longer should Israel have the best equipped military in the region.
I think it's a dumb idea as presented. A recipe for a quagmire. I suspect that Trump was not being serious, but rather trying to overreach and shock so when the idea is pulled back to something more reasonable, it will sound more palatable to everyone.
I don’t think this will be a quagmire. Iraq was nation building. This is truly nation ending as our author says. Welcome to Egypt/ Jordan folks. They’ll just sweep them out.
There are still 22,000 Hamas fighters that we would need to kill off before we destroy that Gazan nation and it would take 18 months to forever to eradicate them meaning even if Trump sent 100,000 US troops to wipe them out, it might not be done until his last year in office if at all.
Yes its very unusual for him. All of his other ideas have been pretty great and we are likely to find out the details on his official Ukraine war peace plan tomorrow which I am expecting will be pretty solid.
I also think Trump likes to say outlandish things to appear unpredictable and to throw off the media dogs. While they are hyperventilating about the impending Mar-a-Gaza development, they are paying less attention to DOGE, USAID and cabinet nominees. Earlier this week, he said that he had left plans to obliterate Iran if they assassinated him. His appearing unpredictable makes Iran think there is a non-zero chance that it's possible. While his underlings are trying to disassemble the corrupt Deep State and the whole USAID slush fund, the media has to give attention to his Gaza plans. "Did you hear what Trump said" takes up space above the fold in tomorrow's fishwrap.
I love everything else Trump is doing including threatening to annex Greenland, making peace with Russia in Ukraine and defunding USAID which is a CIA front group. But this crazy talk about the US invading and occupying Gaza in perpetuity just increases the propaganda talking points of our enemies that the US is an unprovoked aggressor and the biggest threats to world peace causing tens of thousands more Islamic jihadists and terrorists to flock to Iran's side making the US and Israel less secure.
As John Mearsheimer has stated many times, we in the US have the Midas touch in reverse when it has come to the results of our foreign policy over the past 60 years.
As another commenter commented, it could be that Trump is proposing something that is so outlandish that when he actually proposes something that might make some sense it doesn’t seem quite so out of the question.
I think that at the end of the day in order to try to wrap one’s mind around what should be done with this type of intractable problem for which their is no good solution one would do well to take my “course”. My course sets up a logical a framework in order to answer these types of questions.
I know that at first glance that statement sounds like a word salad that might make even Kamala Harris blush, but it would make more sense after one were to take my course.
My course not only lends itself to supplying streamlined answers to our more basic problems as a species but it also lends itself to supplying answers to those problems that are more difficult and intractable.
Yes we do. Hopefully it is but I don't see an angle here. Maybe its just a trial balloon to see if Senate Republicans would shoot it out of the sky which they largely have.
I agree, but I think from a philosophical standpoint I think that it’s best to step back, or better yet zoom out from earth and look at it and take it all in from afar.
This in part is what my “course” does and by doing so it sheds light on what we should be trying to do as a species.
In the process of determining what we should be trying to achieve as a species the course also identifies what we should be trying to avoid.
It’s like planning a road trip where you’ve determined your desired destination. You’ve determined the route that will get you there in the most efficient way possible. You’ve determined the vehicle that you’re going to take. And as I mentioned, you’ve determined what you’d like to try to avoid. And once you’ve thought about all of these things it makes it easier to delve into the psychological roots of all of these things. This in turn makes it easier to wrap your mind around what needs to be done.
It’s actually very simple.
And given the fact that it’s all more or less based on rationality, reasonableness, and the reality of the situation at hand coupled with a healthy dose of critical thinking it makes perfect sense to use it as a guide as to how best to proceed.
AND - Since all of those things are true, in theory, it should gain traction amongst those who are most inclined to be aligned with this way of thinking.
AND - It is the way that our top political leaders should be viewing things since it tends to lead in the best direction possible.
Among many other things, following the dictates in my course provides the best solutions for the problems in Ukraine, Israel and the South China Sea, Taiwan and the East China Sea.
Wow. This piece is full of gross misrepresentations of Trump's statement as well as the entire history of the Israeli-Arab conflict. You must be a Mormon or a liberal Catholic. While there are many things you argue in this piece that are valid hypothetically and show a degree of discernment, there are also an equal number that are stupid and asinine. I have found through 30 years of experience dealing with statesmen, diplomats and pundits of different administrations that US foreign policy has always been poisoned by false religion and an ignorance of Scripture. This usually manifests itself in: 1. The neo-fascist and warmongering neo-cons who try to spread the idolatry of American liberal democracy and their woke pagan agenda of feminism and sodomy throughout the world. And then 2. The Liberal, Antinomian and Neo-Orthodox heretics who intend good; but produce a great deal of evil on account of being pacifist and isolationist... and so end up tolerating and thereby promoting internecine warfare as well as Islamic terrorism to spread like a cancer killing millions...i.e. Hitler's Germany, Stalinist Russia, Maoist China, Cambodia, Rwanda, ISIS to name a few! President Trump's statements were quite clear. He basically said, "We can do this the peaceful and easy way, without troops or US military involvement using Egypt and Jordan, along with the rest of the Arab world to help peacefully resettle them... and to bring as many peace-loving and demilitarized Palestinians back into Gaza without Hamas under US protection! Or we can do it the hard way as I did with ISIS.... But there will be NO Palestinian state! And No Hamas! No more terrorism! No more Islamic radicalism! The 2 state solution is a delusion. Give it up! And do what it takes to bring real and lasting peace." President Trump's statement was careful and calculated.... if you know him. By the way, most of these folks in Gaza have been imported from other Arab countries since the 1940's. It is not their ancestral homeland. That is liberal and anti-Semitic propaganda that originated from the KGB and those Arab Muslims left over after WWI from Nazi-driven Ottoman Empire. Trump's plan may not succeed. But it is a brilliant plan that goes back to the Reagan era. And if it doesn't succeed, there will of course be more war, more terrorism, and the Palestinians in Gaza will be the worse off. And so will the rest of the Middle East! There will be more Death and Destruction under the Wrath of God!
I am actually a lifelong supporter of Israel but I think Netanyahu's been a horrible leader that is threatening to do more to undermine Israeli security than any previous Israeli leader. What makes you think I must be a Mormon or Catholic to support the defense of innocent civilians in Gaza? That's not true. The Palestinians of Gaza have been there for centuries. In fact, there are around 6 million Palestinians who have forced to flee Palestine by Israel since 1948 so there are far more Palestinians in the world than Israel meaning if there was a right of return and Israel were to annex Gaza and the West Bank, Israel would cease to be a Jewish state assuming they granted the Palestinians citizenship which they never would.
The pastor - BAW - speaks for me, just much better.
The author is a good guy and a bright guy, but this piece is muddled and maybe even prevarication.
Please, Palestinians are dedicated to the destruction of the state of Israel: in a word, the enemy. That’s war, so, win.
If you’re on their side fine. Fine except you and your Palestinian, client have been defeated. It’s time they sue for peace and past time for liberals to give up your stupid humanitarian fantasia that has gotten so many people killed; is perverse to leave these two populations connected.
I’m a Zionist so defeat the enemy, the Palestinians, and create conditions on the ground, that will end the conflict. That is what Trump is doing and the offer to relocate them is generous.
I thought Trump ended the war with the implementation of the cease-fire agreement but it seems he wants Israel to violate it after Phase One has been completed to eradicate Hamas so the US can take over Gaza. Even Hamas has come out publicly in support of a two-state solution in which Israel goes back to its 1967 borders. I support the continued existence of the State of Israel. I have even stated I could support Israeli annexations of the West Bank and Gaza provided they grant all the Palestinians the right of citizenship but I will not support the commission of any war crimes like Trump's proposed ethnic cleansing of Gaza.
Let me explain my argument further. The land belongs to Israel... historically, geo-politically, Biblically, and theologically. There is and should be one Jewish state, while there are over 20 Islamic states in the Middle East. Zionism is a Biblical truth that must be recognized by all Christians, Jews, Muslims, and pagans! Now is the time in history for this to happen in God's providence... with President Trump, with Netanyahu the greatest Jewish leader of the modern age, and with some excellent Arab Muslim leaders in the Middle East. They can and should get this done. The Zionist vision actually began with the Early Church Fathers and continued through the Crusades until it came to greater conviction with the Protestant Reformers (especially John Calvin) as well as many of the 17th century Puritans. By the 19th century Victorian era, Reformed Christian leaders together with a great number of Jewish leaders petitioned the British government to devise a plan to re-stablish the Jewish state, and to resettle Jewish folk who wanted to return to their ancestral homeland. Many Jewish families sought the opportunity to do so; and they researched in ancient Biblical and Talmudic archives the genealogical background of their families, which tribes they belong to, and which part of the land of Israel belonged to them before the Jewish Wars and Imperial Rome's anti-Semitic "ethnic cleansing of the land" which was God's judgment upon Israel for rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Following WWI, the British Mandate (the Balfour Declaration) guaranteed that the state of Israel would be established, and that the Jordan as well as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt would be Arab Muslim, as they are today following the breakup of the Ottoman Empire. The land of Israel (known often in history as Palestine) would return to the Jews according to Biblical Law and Scripture prophecy! The Jews have right and title to their homeland as an established state. The so-called state of Palestine as Arab or Muslim has never existed in the history of the world, and it never should. That is a fiction of radical Islam that is often promoted by those who are Liberal, Neo-Orthodox, Mormon, and Roman Catholic. This is sometimes out of ignorance, and sometimes out of idolatry and antisemitism. The Biblical and Reformed view is that the entire land of Israel belongs to the Jews by right and inheritance from God; and it should return to them. The radical Muslim terrorist scourge against Israel over the last 40 years by Hamas and Hezbollah (as well as Muslim nations previously in dispute of the land) is the residual of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, along with the defeat of Nazi Germany in WWII. Hamas and Hezbollah (Iran's proxies), are essentially doing the same work under the same ideology as Hitler and the Ottoman Empire! Furthermore, the percentage of Arab people that live in Gaza, the West Bank, etc.. that can trace their heritage back to the land of Israel is less than 5%. The so-called program for repatriating Palestinian refugees to Israel is a total con job! It is a scam. Most of them were imported from surrounding Muslim nations over the last 80 years as a ploy to combat Zionism and Jewish resettlement. In other words, they would NOT be there if it were not for the Jewish state! Hamas and Hezbollah are nothing but a perpetual fighting force of established neo-Nazi radical Islamic terrorist factions. It is even stated in Hamas' Constitution that they do not want to have a 2 state solution and live next to Israel. They want one Islamic state and to utterly destroy and murder all Jews and Christians. The 2 state solution is a delusion! Hamas is not much different from ISIS. And so, for the last 40 years, Islamic radicals have continued to attack Israel and its citizens with missile strikes as well as outrageously barbaric ways like the Oct.17th attack. Furthermore, there are an equal number of Palestinians who want to relocate and be delivered from the bondage and tyranny of Hamas and those who want to remain with Hamas to fight a jihadi war against Israel. Hamas is a demonic poison upon Jews, Christians, and Arab Muslims. I would therefore argue from Scripture and historical precedent that Israel (with Netanyahu's bold leadership) responded "justly" in the defense of its citizens and territory in purging Hamas and destroying their military capabilities to prevent further terrorist attacks. They gave ample warning to the Palestinians to leave Gaza. But Hamas prevented most of them, and even used them as media cover and propaganda to die. The destruction of Gaza was fully justified as the vast majority of the civilian deaths in Gaza (including women and children) were directly caused by the obstructing policies of Hamas preventing civilians from leaving "bomb zones" as well as many so-called innocents who were hired by Hamas as "martyrs" who would be paid thousands of dollars to stay for the cameras to be injured or killed. Even the ungodly liberal UN court knows this. Hamas does not deserve pity, but a kind and swift removal and displacement from the land. This includes all Arab Muslims if they are not willing to give up their radical ideology and live with Jews and Christians in peace under Jewish law in a unified Israeli state. Once again, the land belongs to Israel... historically, geo-politically, Biblically, and theologically. There is and should be one Jewish state, while there are over 20 Islamic states in the Middle East. The two state solution is a delusion as much as a godless liberal and neo-fascist fabrication of Nazi ideology. President Trump's plan is an excellent compromise that allows Jews, Christians, and Arab Muslims to live and enjoy peace together in what would likely become yes, the Riviera of the Middle and a model for both peace and prosperity....until it becomes absorbed into Israel. Read Romans 9-11!
If I could go back in history and give my life to save 5-6 million Jews from Hitler's Holocaust I gladly would. I also strongly condemned the Hamas terrorist attacks that killed nearly 1,200 Jews but I do not support genocide against Palestinians and I do agree with your anti-Christian bigotry expressed in your two posts on this thread. As I noted above, I would be absolutely fine with Israel annexing Gaza and the West Bank so long as they provided citizenship to all the Palestinians including the ones in East Jerusalem. Of course, they never would because they are a Jewish state. Israel turned Gaza into one gigantic concentration camp with their illegal land, sea and air starvation blockade and continue to block Gazan civilians from leaving Gaza even for emergent medical issues from severe injuries incurred from Israeli bombing strikes. I find it supremely ironic that Netanyahu has been pursing a collective punishment campaign to make Gaza uninhabitable but has not allowed any Gazans to leave the country to date ensuring the failure of his ethnic cleansing strategy. Less than one percent of Gazan citizens are Hamas fighters so wouldn't it be a more prudent strategy for Israel to try to kill off the 22,000 remaining Hamas fighters instead of continuing to kill off tens of thousands of women and children that pose no threat to Israel?
Sorry David, I believe you are terribly wrong on this one. Your analysis of the Russia-Ukraine conflict is brilliant.. as is Colonel MacGregor's. But you are both very very wrong in your analysis of this war and your viewpoint on Israel-Hamas/Hezbollah. You are clearly not anti-Semitic, but you are ignorant and unwise in this area.... as so many good US diplomats and military leaders are today. While I have no doubt Netanyahu allowed/ set up the whole Oct.7th terrorist operation of Hamas as I state in previous articles, it was with the design of exposing how callous, barbaric, demonic, and unified Hamas and the Palestinian people in Gaza are. I hope you watch the unedited videos. If I were Netanyahu, I would be tempted to nuke Gaza as well. This was Canaanite barbarity revisited, and it was applauded by most of the citizens in Gaza. To say that Hamas terrorists consist of only 1% is a complete farce. You evidently do not know much about the region or the people there, nor how the Gazans have helped finance the operation and consented to all the tunnel networks and activity under hospitals, schools etc.... as well as volunteer to be willing instruments of jihad through martyrdom. Do you even know the history of the region? Do you even know of the rise and influence of radical Islamic theology? Its Nazi and Ottoman origins? Are you familiar with the Armenian holocaust perpetrated by the Ottomans? Or the barbaric activities of ISIS? Have you read the Constitution of Hamas that was adopted by the Palestinian people? You have a completely distorted western liberal view of the history and conflict. That is why I thought you were either Mormon or Catholic. You are definitely not a Liberal. But you are influenced by Neo-Orthodoxy. This is not an ethnic cleansing by Israel, but a just war to defeat a very deceitful, godless, reprobate and demonic terrorist network designed to purge Gaza of Hamas, and to bring Gaza and the Palestinian people to peaceful submission. Even Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of Hamas' founder (who is now a Christian) knows the treachery of Hamas and the people. It is not Israel that turned Gaza into a concentration camp, but the people themselves allying themselves with Hamas and allowing their terrorist network to expand over the last 20 years....using billions of dollars on missiles and terrorist operations instead of economic development. That speaks volumes as to the radicalism of the people. They could have revolted, or left the region. But they did not. They joined the jihad. And by the way, the concept of "collective punishment" is entirely Biblical taken in the right way. Where do you get your information/ propaganda??? And yes, it is President Trump's design to encourage Israel to allow some of the Arab Muslims in Gaza to become citizens, those who can prove their heritage from the land before 1930. But Israel is not a modern Liberal Democracy, any more than other Arab Muslim countries. The vast majority of Palestinians in Gaza are imported. They do not deserve a state of their own, nor citizenship in a Jewish state! Do you even know the history of the region or the history of radical Islam and the difficulty it has been for the US and allies to purge it from Arab Muslim states? Why do people expect 10 times more from Israel than from Muslim countries. It is utter hypocrisy! You should read both my brief statements again and again (as well as this one) as well as Ezra-Nehemiah-Esther and Romans 9-11 until the truth shines into your heart and soul. They are brief. But they are to the point! God bless you, and may He give you wisdom in this area which you do not have.
I actually am LDS. I just wanted to know why you thought someone who stood strongly in defense of the bombing and starvation of innocent civilians was LDS or Catholic but on reflection I think the reason is self-evident as its because we subscribe to the Just War Theory and I guess most other Christians do not. As a conservative nationalist, I believe every nation deserves a state of their own including Ukrainians the Kurds and the Palestinians. I do not go as far as COL McGregor as I am not inherently pro-Israel. In fact, I refused all pleas to support a Palestinian state until I saw the barbarity of Israel's terror bombing campaign and illegal starvation blockade against 2.3 million innocent Gazan civilians which have utterly destroyed Gaza when I would have strongly supported Israel if they had only targeted Hamas terrorists. I find it interesting that you agree that Netanyahu knew about the October 7th attacks in advance and did nothing to prevent it from happening in order to give him a pretext to finally implement his annexationist plan for "Greater Israel" not just for Gaza but for the West Bank as well.
Greetings and blessings David. I gathered you were LSD (or possibly Catholic) from your misrepresentation of "Just War Doctrine" in relation to Scripture and your views on Israel's conflict with radical Islam. Your misguided views on Israel and Hamas are common among them. And as a conservative nationalist, you are right in saying that every "nation" deserves a state of their own. That would include Ukraine up to the Dnieper where the people are actually Ukrainian and not Russian. And so I believe Russia is just in their military operation in annexing Crimea and the Donbas after the Maidan revolution and the Kiev regime started killing Russians in the Donbas and systematically persecuting them. The Kurds also should eventually obtain a state of their own, having to suffer for years the evil effects of world powers drawing up territories in the Middle East after WWI and the fall of the Ottoman Empire. But the Palestinian people in Gaza are all Arab Muslims imported from Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc... following WWI. They do not have any long standing right or title to the land. There is only a very small percentage who actually belong to the land prior to 1900! You evidently haven't got clue as to the history of the region. Moreover the Balfour Declaration in the 1920's after WWI sanctioned the establishment of the Jewish state and a security guarantee that basically consisted of the Biblical acknowledgement of their land as an inheritance, "From the River to the Sea." Furthermore, if you know Biblical Law and Scripture prophecy, as well as the political theology of the Church Fathers, the Reformers, the Puritans, and the 19th century Reformed theologians in America and Victorian England, you would know what I am saying. Moreover, you clearly do not have a clue as to what has transpired in Israel or Gaza over the last 80 years, nor the present war and conflict. You sound like a Marxist UN diplomat when talking about Netanyahu and the supposed suffering of innocent Palestinians in Gaza. Your comments are all talking points of the godless liberal fake news media which are based on cleverly designed lies and fabrications. Also, you would be surprised how much I know about what is going on there. And I assure you, your comments are absurd and ridiculous... even to the point of being anti-Semitic and demonic. Strangely enough, you want to believe the lies and propaganda of Hamas and the godless liberal fake news media. I assure you, even many of the Arab leaders are not speaking the truth about their convictions. Most of them want Israel to utterly destroy Hamas once and for all. But they can't say that publicly because of the heavy influence of radicalism and propaganda among their people. I am surprised you don't know this. In fact, they would be overjoyed if the US and Israel overthrew the radical Shiite government in Iran and utterly destroyed Hamas and Hezbollah from the face of the earth. Of course, they would show public outrage for the sake of appearance.
Pastor; Being correct, as I think you are, is worth very little in this world. People are disinterested in correctness, they have an answer and that will suffice. Does the Bible speak about this, does it have that understanding of human nature? What I’m saying is winning the argument is Noble but mostly futile. Simply put, win the war, that is what counts, yes make the argument but accept that you can’t win the argument, human ignorance is unrelenting. For everyone’s betterment, win the war and hostilities will cease and human life is spared.
What is the failure in the Levant?
First and foremost, Muslim hatred of Jews. Secondly, it is the of the liberal fantasia that we are somehow different and that the old standards do not apply to us: presentism. So we back both sides and leave two incompatible groups slaughtering each other for decades. Israel should’ve been allowed to win in the 1960s and separated out their Muslim enemies and it would’ve been over.
With trump’s plan, it will be over . This is simply the way it works.
To repeat, winning, the argument is nice, but futile and winning the war is a necessity for the end end of violence . The poor Palestinians have been dupes. The wider, Muslim world views them as useful idiots. The wider Muslim world used them to bludgeon Jews out of bigotry.
“ that speaks volumes as to the radicalism of the people” : that is my argument, dear author and your 36% poll argument is dumb. Hatred for Jews, and Israel is the life blood of the Palestinian nation from their constitution to their school curriculum, that’s what they are. The good pastor makes a learned historical argument. I’m speakingsimply and practically: defeat your enemy. By defeating your enemy, you will reduce the number of lives lost. Liberalism is the stupidity of backing both sides in the name of some humanitarian Fantasia and the resulting prolongation of low level death with occasional spikes in violence. Your judgement on this is terrible.
Gazan civilians are not Israel's enemy. Only Hamas is so any peace deal needs to mandate Hamas give up power and then a two-state solution can lead to a just and lasting peace both for Israel and Palestinians.
At least Trump is trying to help the Gaza peoples. He seemed to truly care about how they have to live. Unlike all the other naysayers. Honestly, how would you like to live and raise your family in them conditions? Hamas uses them. The people deserve better. Possibly a fresh start.
Because he’s creating the conditions that will de-incentivize them staying and make the new plan work .
This is what losing a war looks like. It’s the right thing to do.
The Palestinians are dedicated to the destruction of Israel, Trump is Zionist so he is defeating the enemy.
Also a misnomer : hamas is not separate from the Palestinians they are one and the same. So, that’s why you can’t defeat Hamas. Trump’s proposal is, correctly, the defeat of the Palestinians.
That's ridiculous. Before the war only 34% of Palestinians supported Hamas. Since Israel invaded and terror bombed Gaza, 70% of them do because they rightly view Hamas as the only force that has been defending their nation from ongoing Israeli attempts to destroy it. According to your definition, all 80 plus million Germans including newborn babies were guilty of Hitler's Holocaust. Do you even realize how grossly immoral and un-Christian that is to blame innocent young children and babies for the crimes of a relative few evil Nazi or Hamas leaders? That is exactly Hitler's mentality in blaming the entire Jewish race and justifying their extermination for the crimes of a few Jewish Bolshevik leaders that staged the Spartacist revolutions that knocked Germany out of World War One and tried to overthrow its democratic government.
100% of Palestinians are anti-Zionist 100% are anti-Jew, they teach their children to hate Jews in school and their constitution is 100% dedicated to the destruction of the state of Israel but some western style poll says only 36% of people are in favour of the governing party that corruptly mismanages their little strip of land, that’s a dumb argument. You’re measuring the wrong thing, buddy.
It’s not as complicated as you’re making it. These people are the enemy of Israel and they need to be defeated and defeated in a manner in which they can no longer present a threat. What we’ve done for years is defeat them a little bit and then call it off. That has led to 80 years of slaughter. Move them out and end it. It’s not that complex: win. We are the first generation in human history that doesn’t understand this: war requires victory.
If you were in Israeli shoes, you would do the same thing.
That's not true. The Jewish saying of "the land from the land to the sea" as adopted by the Palestinians does not envision the expulsion of the Jews but envisions a Palestinian state in which all the Jews and Palestinians live together in peace. Of course, with a right to return for all the six million Palestinians who live in other countries, that would give Palestinians a majority over Israel's current Jewish population of around 8.5 million Jews. Hamas on the other hand does support killing the Jews and so any peace plan must ensure that Hamas is banned and must never return to power.
I'll just say one more thing and that's that we should want Ukraine to avoid the touch of the U.S. curse. And what is that curse? It is the curse of being permanently separated from its Russian brothers and sisters.
The establishment of so called peacekeeper will only perpetuate the myth of the evil, Russian ogres. A DMZ, Western and Eastern Ukraine are all what the U.S. requires but they aren't in Ukraines best interests. The 2 Koteas. The Hutus vs. the Tutsis of Rwanda. The people of Kosovo vs the Serbs.
So far the Vietnamese are the only ones who managed to reclaim theor fraternal unity but that is only because they refused to accept the Will of their imperialist masters.
They did itt though. They avoided the pitfalls of U.S. propaganda rhetoric and political manipulation.
The U.S. can't bring back the dead or heal the wounded but it can and should resolve to bring healing and renewed unity to the Russoan, Ukrainian relationship.
I agree that I don't think any peacekeepers are necessary and perhaps not even a DMZ but I know that Trump's plan does include a DMZ so that is one of the reasons I included it in my latest peace proposal.
I would love to see Russia and Ukraine resume adherence to its 1997 Treaty of Friendship. There is no reason why they can't resume friendly relations once Ukraine agrees to peace terms minimally acceptable to Russia.
Have been following Trump only vaguely before he came down the escalator. thought him absurd.
Then he won the presidency and became the most evil guy ever. My big takeaway about the man was that he was unpredictable, much of what he said was for effect.
The total Gaza ethnic cleansing thing has no chance and Trump knows it. So why did he say it? Don't know, but I hope it was to give Bibi a hard time.
No Arab state can agree to this without the absolute disaffection of the people. Non-Arab muslims will attack it.
Maybe Trump, the lame duck, is just saying something for effect and to get some time and run out a clock.
Nothing ever goes right for the US in the Middle East and if Trump realizes it, he gets reality which is rare in American politics.
The biggest issue is that Trump is saying his Gaza occupation and takeover plan would cost no taxpayer dollars and would employ no US troops which is absurd. The truth is it would be a financial boondoggle and Iraq style quagmire that would necessitate a full US invasion of Gaza and a protracted no-win counterinsurgency war against 22,000 battle-hardened Hamas militants that could end up being Trump's Vietnam.
Yeah. How many times have we heard that before from a politician at all levels of government, "it won't cost the taxpayer a dime" or "its an investment". And probably the worst promise of all because its so evil, "there will be no U.S. boots on the ground".
They're all akin to the ideal that there's such a thing as being a little bit pregnant. No politician quotes the old phrase, "in for a penny, in for a pound."
They said there would be no U.S. boots on the ground in Gaza because they'd be on the 340 million dollar pier. Well, the only thing that made it true was that the pier sank. Thankfully their evil plans were foiled by an act of God.

Yes and well said metal -h.
It’s not ethnic cleansing they’re gonna become Egyptians and be given a lot of money
Given a lot of money by whom? Trump has said he would not give them one red cent.
Yes?
Then why has he cut off all US aid to Gaza and why won't he commit to spend any money to help the Gazans relocate or find new homes?
Because he’s creating the conditions that will de-incentivize them staying and make the new plan work .
This is what losing a war looks like. It’s the right thing to do.
The Palestinians are dedicated to the destruction of Israel, Trump is Zionist so he is defeating the enemy.
Also a misnomer : hamas is not separate from the Palestinians they are one and the same. So, that’s why you can’t defeat Hamas. Trump’s proposal is, correctly, the defeat of the Palestinians.
This should’ve been done 50 years ago or longer .
And thanks for calling me Hitler.
As well done as your article is, it should reach the logical conclusion that the US should cut and run from the Middle East.
Just a guess, I stand behind none of it.
The point is you display terrible judgement. Trump is re-ordering everything. Trump has more power than any president since FDR.
Richard, Trump “the lame duck”, you are spectacular in your misjudgment.
Is there a point?
Trump became a lame duck as soon as he finished the oath.
Are you expecting a coup?
Yes, Trump is a lame-duck President by definition which is probably why he is not worried about whether any of his actions have public support.
